Around fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Police then located many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police state preliminary tests suggest the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have asked to the public for details.
A high-ranking official stated the attack rendered him stunned and required to be resolved promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the death of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
